Any ideas on this?

I live in Hillsborough county. I tried to request a book through the Interlibrary Loan system and kept getting an error. I contacted the library to find out if there was some bug in the system or if I was doing something wrong and was informed of the following:

“ILL services are currently unavailable until September 1 due to the Republican National Convention. Please try again after September 1.”

WTF? Really? Does anyone know why the Republican Convention should interfere with my ability to borrow a book on polymer clay? Maybe I'm missing something about the danger access to books presents to the security of the Republican Convention goers, but what the hell?

They have probably already energized the "Science Suppression Field" around the whole state.
It can only be a matter of days before the "Reality Barrier" goes up to keep pesky facts away.

It seems that the "Science Suppression Field" has been in force for years down here. And don't conservatives all have their own personal "Reality Barrier"? lol

I would guess that interlibrary loans are more trouble than a financially strapped library system can pay for during periods of high traffic. It'd be easy to say that Republicans and books are incompatible, but it's probably just that they can't afford to have their ILL drivers sitting in traffic for hours.

but I can still place request for books within the Hillsborough County Library system. I can't use the WorldCat system which lets me borrow books from outside of Hillsborough County. This is completely weird to me and I just don't get it.

And yes, Republicans and books (other than the bible and Ayn Rand titles I suppose - Jesus and Ayn Rand, talk about incompatible) are incompatible, but it's still freaking strange.
