not that I don't think extremely highly of Warren. I think she is sterling. But I think Harris really impresses me and others. Warren, sad to say and not her fault, has the "baggage" of the past. It's not really baggage, just history. Harris is like a fresh slate.
I will do some really heavy research, tho, before I make up my mind...

(34,174 posts)Warren and Harris are both good Democrats who know how to speak up.

(58,785 posts)Personally, I'll wait to see who survives the first primary debates and then get serious. I can just see myself trying to remember just which long-gone name I "committed to" back in 2019.
Right now, it's only OMG-NO!! rule-outs. A long list. I have little tolerance for people who hope to build their brand by crowding onto a candidate stage Republican style, and of course even less for the kind of anti-Democrat Democrats the GOP and Russia pump up.

(58,785 posts)as more Americans become believers, and I'm looking forward to seeing that become a big issue for 2020. Until very recently even most Democratic voters would tune out when Democratic candidates tried to talk climate problems.

(7,509 posts)I wish I were kidding:
If the bill becomes law, parents of chronically truant elementary school children could face a year in jail or a $2,000 fine.
"These children will invariably be what will end up in our criminal justice system," San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris testified.
Harris, who sponsored the legislation, told legislators that elementary school truants usually become high school dropouts and face worse problems.

Maybe her thinking has evolved on the issue, but this chapter in her political career definitely gives me pause.

(29,718 posts)and she has such great personal power. I think that she and Beto as her VP would be killer ticket. I just read twitter about election fraud in Tarrant County that stole the election for Cruz.

(182,843 posts)Not dismissing her chances but she would be a fantastic pick for VP slot on a ticket - but I don't think California is much in doubt.

(102,304 posts)and, I find her far more likely to be able to effectively counter Trump's ugly nonsense than most of the other candidates. She's got that no-nonsense prosecutorial persona that I find highly effective. Trump won't know how to deal with her, and, I'd predict would be intimidated.

(63,221 posts)I agree with Warren't politics and admire her for what she is doing in the senate, but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me and I can't see her taking Trump's blows gracefully. She's my senator and I voted for her. I will stand by her 100% if she is the Democratic nominee, but Harris is so much more impressive and charismatic.

She married another attorney.
What I like about that is attorneys especially district attorneys are tough and for this election your going to need balls of steel.
Warren is tough too in her own way.

CTyankee
(63,912 posts)but Trump's stupid insults (e.g. Pocahontas) linger in folks memory. I'm sure he'll come up with something for Kamala, too, but she will be formidable. She is a former prosecutor and Warren a professor. I think Kamala's persona terrifies Trump, I really do. He'll try but fall flat, IMO.

(5,097 posts)that the Republicans will always attempt to "swift boat" our candidate regardless
of how "fresh" she/he is. They have been extremely good at messaging and driving that
message into consciousness of the body politic.
We need to select our candidate not from a defensive position, but from
a position of strength. This is no ordinary election.
Let us find the person who is best suited to retake the leadership of our
country at such a perilous time regardless of how the Republicans attempt
to define them. With each candidate, let us ask: Is that the one who is most
capable of restoring this democracy and our place in the world.

(45,493 posts)Kidding aside, I like Harris too, but let's look at proposed plans, the ability to achieve proposed plans, and the ability to push the country left. Let's watch what they say, what other leaders support them, and what kind of traction their campaign gains.

(6,139 posts)and her experience as prosecutor is very handy right now. I am not sure how knowledgble she is about economy though. Id be curious to see her platform. Warren is definately very strong on economy.

(1,693 posts)Warren has that professor still in her blood and sometimes it feels like a college lecture when she is speaking at times. Harris comes off as more natural and warm.

(63,912 posts)which is not Warren's fault. It is simply a style issue. I love and treasure Sen. Warren!
