Thank you, Senator Franken

Had you not so skillfully boxed in Jeff Sessions with his own lies, he would not have had to recuse himself from the Russia investigation. And we all know that, unlike Comey, Sessions would have quashed the investigation immediately upon Trump's request and he surely would never have approved the counter-intelligence investigation into his boss.

So, thank you, Senator Franken. We owe you a great debt. And you deserved far better than you received from us. I sincerely hope - and expect - that history will be much kinder to you than we have been.

Thought burnishing her "Me Too" creds at Franken's expense (and ours) would help her win the 2020 nomination for president. It was a back stabbing and political miscalculation from which she'll never recover on the national stage. And although I like Bernie, he jumped on that bandwagon too, and as such disqualified himself for further consideration for higher office in the eyes of many Democrats.

I try not to think about all the good Al Franken could be doing us here and now, if he hadn't been run out of the Senate. His punishment far outweighed the sins he committed, and the Democratic Party is without some much-needed political power and skill as a result. And Steve King still retains his office to this very day.

have the moral high ground on sexual harassment.

And then, when Kavanaugh, Dems gave everything they had and he was STILL confirmed - even without the "distraction" of Franken.

Dems got played. And Franken got railroaded for no good reason.

Let's hope we finally learned the lesson that we didn't learn from Gore running away from Bill Clinton, Dems trashing Hillary Clinton, Senate Dems throwing Franken under the bus, etc.

Perhaps the fact that a critical mass of Dems didn't fall into that trap when folks tried to run Pelosi out of town - and now are breathing a sigh of relief that they she stared them down, stepped over them and kept on moving - is an instructive lesson that will guide future behavior.

so many of our Democratic front runners were so quick to jump on the "hang Al" bandwagon. It does not bode well for their political acumen that they were so easily duped by people as simple as the breitbart gang.

If any make it to the later primaries, I will want apologies for their actions, acknowledgment of their error, and promises that they will not be that stupid again.

84. Gillibrand had one very legitimate worry
Sat Jan 12, 2019, 11:50 PM
Jan 2019

This was a problem she could ill afford to confront if a thorough public hearing were held: that Al Franken was innocent of all allegations of sexual harassment, and that the leader of the movement to get him to resign would lose a lot of credibility if this were to become obvious in a public hearing. I think by now Gillibrand realizes her error but maybe fears for her status as a leader of an otherwise legitimate movement. For example, does anyone think there is a chance in hell that Roy Moore or Brett Kavanaugh was innocent of the charges leveled against them?

I am most disappointed by the fact that, now that not one credible “victim” of Al’s so-called inappropriate behavior has come forward with a real name or believable testimony, that Al has not received ONE public apology from any of those who publicly urged him to resign. To me, this indicates they are not courageous enough to admit they fell for a contrived Republican scam. I will, of course support our nominee for president next year, but requests for contributions during the primary will be met with my request for an apology to Al first. Otherwise, the American Cancer Society or Sloan Kettering gets my preference.

The presidency demands (not always fulfilled, granted) a certain degree of leadership tempered by humility. After dumping on Al Franken under false pretenses, and then being unwilling or unable to admit it, this negates, for me, a candidate’s legitimacy to solicit my support for their primary run. If I thought any of them would bother to listen, I’d tell them not to waste the postage or the paper.

Jan 2019
https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/424888-ex-surrogate-says-me-too-movement-has-been-weaponized-against-sanders

Nomiki Konst, a former surrogate for Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, on Friday said that the "Me Too" movement has been weaponized against the senator in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations against staffers from his 2016 presidential campaign.

"This is an issue on all campaigns. This is not a Bernie Sanders issue," Konst told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on "Rising."

"I think, unfortunately, the 'Me Too' movement has been used as a political weapon in this case," she continued. "It has to be dealt with no matter what, but it is not something that feeds into this old Bernie bro narrative."

"The deputy campaign manager for Bernie Sanders was a woman. The chief of staff for Bernie Sanders had been a woman for years. I mean, there is always a need for women in leadership to address these issues, but I've seen this played out in the media. We have to remember that there are women that have been part of this movement, and they shouldn't be erased," she said citing female Sanders supporters such as herself, former Ohio state Sen. Nina Turner (D) and actress Rosario Dawson.
