amending the record happens all the time.
real people in live question and answer situations can't always instantly recall and properly express the whole truth. ask enough questions, particularly if the full answer is complex, and they'll eventually get something materially incorrect. note especially, that live in congress, the people questioning you do *not* actually want you to explain everything in technical detail. they might even deny you the time to properly and fully respond.
normal people correct the record promptly in good faith as there is no intent to deceive. people often answer "is x always done this way?" with "yes" if x is standard practice, only to realize later that there are a few exceptions.
"do you walk down your driveway and check the mail every day that mail is delivered?"
"yes."
then later, oh, wait, sometimes when it's really raining cats and dogs i'll just wait until the next day....
that said, if the intent is to deceive, you're more likely to delay correcting the record until you realize you can't get away with it....
