Should ALL affected by shutdown get interest on their money?? (Original Post) bluestarone Jan 2019 OP
Its a nice thought but doesn't it conflict with the fact that many people can't pay for food or rent onenote Jan 2019 #1

without that paycheck, in which case they wouldn't be putting the money in the bank and earning interest on it.

And as I said, it's a nice thought. But to play devil's advocate, wouldn't the response to such a proposal be that the folks getting back pay weren't denied interest on it because they weren't going to put it in the bank but needed to spend it immediately?

Obviously, the answer is that some wouldn't be saving it and some would. But the government hasn't paid interest when its paid back furloughed workers in the past and I can't see it happening now.

If they are financially ruined, (depending on how long this continues) why cannot ALL of them go after McConnell?

Think of it this way: would you want corporations that incur additional costs in order to comply with regulations, sometimes to the point of going out of business, to be able to sue the members of Congress or the agency officials who adopted those regulations?
