How does a foreign power use our voting data

as a weapon? My family was just talking about it last night, but all I got is dropping people off the voter rolls. I'm looking for some real James Bond stuff. The tracking people on Facebook and putting on fake news stories on their page, sure we know that one.

I'm curious about the ones that people aren't aware that psych-ops was being used on them.

Shock me DU.

Russia used the data to target soft voters and used MILLIONS of messages to influence the election.

That’s a good start.

Also, why does anyone get any important information from someone you don't know? Then you believe it, without doing a minute of research?

Man, humans are lazy.

I would consider someone that changed parties a good target as well as someone with certain traits such as white females.

...my guess it told the Russians where to focus their resources and what kinds of resources might be more effective than others. Together with the work of Cambridge Analytica...hmmmm, where could they be using that data?

Think of it as a team's playbook. If you know what the other team's game plan is before the game starts, you can better tailor your game plan to thwart the other team. It's no guarantee of winning, but you enhance your chances.

By sharing their internal polling with the Russians, the Trump campaign in effect brought the Russians and their trove of online data knowledge to help them in analyzing voters in specific areas, identifying voting trends, and tailoring their message to depress voter turnout of their opponent and enhance the turnout of their own voters. It was no guarantee of winning the election, but the Trump campaign enhanced their chances by recruiting a foreign country and its spy apparatus to work for them.

to almost a guarantee in winning.

Do you obtain the people , on the lower ladders, that work Election Day that do the running for the tabulations? Can you locate names, then work yourself near them to see if you can corrupt anyone? Might be going The Americans here. Or is no one alone with the voters numbers on Election Day?

I'm just trying to figure out 3 states, all with under 80,000 voters that put Mr. Unqualified in our office. I just want to know if it was possible, but I'm not sure our govt will ever tell us, if true.

if this is a credible threat the target country has to have more problems than just voter data in the wrong hands.

...of strategies they used to defeat Hillary Clinton. I have no doubt they covered ALL the bases, including vulnerable voting systems. The polling data likely showed them which counties had machines and votes to focus on.

has already been proven to be hackable, and the Russians exploited it. What's going to stop them from doing it again? Neither party seems to want to address this.

Data mining and psychological use in targeting US citizens . Divide and conquer through false narratives and fear mongering.

Not to mention technological hacking that could target voting machines.

It's a scary big deal that likely never stopped after the election...
