https://www.politicususa.com/2019/01/08/draft-beto-effort-grows-as-gop-digs-for-dirt-on-orourke.html"SNIP....
One GOP group, Super PAC America Rising, is focusing on ORourkes votes during his six years in Congress. They believe that the voting record will show that he is much more conservative than other potential Democratic 2020 candidates, and they believe publicizing this will hurt the Texans chances of winning the nomination.
They are also studying in depth ORourkes family money and his familys influence on his past campaigns as well as his connections to the oil industry in Texas.
An unnamed official at the Republican National Committee said that they have put together a hefty book on ORourke as part of their extensive 2020 opposition research and will continue to add to it.
The Republicans research will probably be used during the Democratic primaries to cause trouble for the former congressman. Its no surprise that they will do this as ORourke is seen as a potential future leader of the Democratic Party, and Republicans want to do all they can to destroy him.

(32,086 posts)I'd love to see what's in that "hefty" book of theirs. I'm sure it's full of nonsense, such as his formerly being in a band, swearing, dancing, and mixing stripes and plaids. Any alleged "dirt" they find on him will pale in comparison to what is likely to be exposed in the coming year on most of the GOP hierarchy.

(1,765 posts)Bring it on RNC we aren't afraid of you. Plus Beto is super popular with Independents which makes him very scary and dangerous to them.

(7,412 posts)A city mayor with little positional power and a state legislature seat don't qualify someone for the White House, don't care who it is, I don't think Beto is qualified either with just a few terms in the House, I would say he's just barely qualified for VP, barely. They need to at least do something in the next Democratic Administration or win a statewide election of some sort to improve their stock.

Abrams and Gillum are both good candidates and should be drafted too.

(17,984 posts)We need to keep sight of that. If Gillum and Abrams cannot be considered because they lost, then Beto cannot be considered because he lost.

(17,984 posts)saying Abrams shouldn't be considered because she lost. I remember it clear as day. There were several threads that ran within days of mine supporting Beto for president. I would post a link to that thread, but my history only goes back to the middle of December.

(13,340 posts)I mean, she certainly doesn't need their permission to run.
She's not my candidate, but I'd give her a listen and I think most democrats would.

(17,984 posts)I like Beto. I think he's great. But I despise the double standard.

(11,686 posts)It is called life, being human, and maturing. Now, that dirt does not mean it is against the law or shady but things we may have done that is not so savoury. What a persons family may have done as long as you were not involved should not be an issue. Anybody/everybody needs to look long and hard and honestly at their face in the mirror before attempting to dig dirt on another person. Could any of these GOP have the guts to do that?
