without the red hats cheering him on. He only wants the publicity.

I won't be watching. I really hope that when the number of viewers is published that it's the lowest number ever recorded for a Presidential speech. That would really chap his hide.

8. The general supposition is that Trump will be making an appeal about border security.

It has been portrayed in the media as a speech on immigration.

What it will likely be is a campaign style speech trying to rally support for Trump's wall by decrying how dangerous the border is, by pointing to isolated, yet provocative and fear mongering examples of undocumented immigrants committing crimes, especially violent crimes, and especially killing law enforcement personnel.

Trump does not have the understanding, nor the temperament to make an actual speech on policy matters. He does not understand immigration enough to make any kind of intelligent speech about how to manage it. He can only appeal to the fear and bigotry of his base and perhaps that of other people who do not understand immigration in the US.

He will try to make the shutdown the fault of the Democratic Party as well, no doubt. His problem is that he is ignorant and arrogant. He thinks that by speaking to people he can persuade them. It works on his base which is predisposed to already accept his statements, but it will likely be an amateurish speech.

His base is eroding, only a small minority wants the wall. Those two things are putting the screws to the GOP.

So tonight is all about scaring a majority into demanding the wall. The truth be damned.
