My prediction: Trump declares a National Emergency tonight.

My reasoning:

1. It ends the shutdown. The Senate then has no reason to not pass a wall-less CR.

2. It pacifies the Deplorables. Maybe just for a little while, but when has Trump ever thought long-term?

3. When (not if) the declaration is challenged in court, the courtroom proceedings will make great drama that will be drawn out for a long time -- plenty of opportunity for Trump to whine about liberal judges legislating from the bench and a great distraction from the facts that the emergency is nonexistent and that the wall is ultimately unbuildable and useless. If Trump wins in court he wins. If he loses, he still wins among the Deplorables by being a martyr to the Deep State.

4. He really has nothing else new to talk about that justifies an Oval Office address.

I could be wrong.

Trump, or whoever wrote his 8 minute speech, will cite a few specific cases where criminals posing as asylum seekers have done horrible things to Americans in this country. He will use fear to create the possibility that thousands more will do the same if his wall is not built to protect us. He will claim the Democrats want completely open borders with no background checks and throw out the old "catch and release" and soft on crime sound bites.

He will come short of declaring an actual emergency but say it is well with his power as our fearless protective leader to do so. He will state that the next bad thing that happens tangentially related to the border or someone crossing it will now be the Fault of the Democrats.

He will reopen portions of the government as he sees fit because he, unlike Democrats, is a smart and reasonable man that goes with his gut and knows more than anyone in the world about anything.

He will call some Democrats derogatory names and mention the work he still needs to do with Russia, China, and NK.

Because could possibly be left with a functioning government and him holding an empty bag ( court rulings)

The lies will be stories of terrorism, thievery, disease, taking American jobs, billions spent on "illegals," and all the kind of stuff that gets these dispicable/deplorable MFers upset, oiling their guns, and voting for GOPers.

He will try to terrify the nation and then say if his wall isn't offered, then there WILL be an NE..... at some indefinite future sounding like tomorrow, but not really.

Just to gin up his base to create havoc outside legislators' offices. The guy loves cliffhangers but is basically a coward.
