What kind of safety-net is available to federal employees and — soon — SNAP recipients? The reason I ask is because my parents were career civil service, and I’m thankful nothing like this happened while I was growing up.

Is it community by community? I know my credit union is offering interest-free loans and financial counseling. And I’m sure local food pantries are geared up. Of course, United Way information & referral lines are standing by, despite the fact that the feds do their own workplace-giving drives (AKA Combined Federal Campaign).

Has any nationwide organization stepped up and taken the lead in channeling support and resources for families?

I’d be willing to donate to a real foundation or 501(c)3 organization that would help.

since most people living on margins won't have the extra cash to pay them off.

Good luck!

Maybe I just don't get that one, but it appears to portray that flip-flopping jellyfish as some kind of protector of children.
