Pelosi Cranks Up Pressure on Republicans Over Shutdown
January 8, 2019 at 6:35 am EST By Taegan Goddard

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Democrats are ramping up pressure on President Trump and Republicans to open the government amid a prolonged impasse over border wall funding that shows no signs of abating,” The Hill reports.

“Sensing a winning hand, Democrats this week will repackage a handful of uncontroversial bills funding a number of shuttered agencies — excluding Homeland Security, which covers the proposed wall — and send them off to the Senate one by one, forcing GOP leaders to explain their promised inaction on measures they supported just weeks ago.”

Playbook: “There is a growing fear that Republicans will begin getting frustrated with the White House’s position, and will vote with Democrats to open government. Pence said the administration is in touch with Republicans, and he’ll be on the Hill briefing people today.”

These are bills that fund agencies that have nothing to do with "border security" and that had significant bipartisan support.

By not allowing a vote and because most of the public is not aware of how a bill becomes the law (or how the complex rules of Congress are designed), the media narrative of "grid lock" and "both sides are to blame" continues to have the electorate blame "both sides" for what is essentially ONE SIDE'S actions.

But then the major media is owned by the GOP so that is why this happens.

Manafort hand-picked him for some reason and it sure as hell wasn't his charisma or political savvy. Welcome to DU.

I would hope everyone starts calling the crime what it actually is....CONSPIRACY.

Doturd says "no collusion" so often I feel we need to change the narrative to focus on the Repukes actual crimes.

Can you imagine what kind of shit we'd be in right now if we had pursued "change for the sake of change" when selecting our Speaker?

There is very LITTLE value in having someone "new" in that position at this important juncture in time... when experience is what's needed.

I LOVE Nancy Pelosi!

I have heard Republicans suggest that talking point.

Nancy Pelosi was always going to be the Speaker. I hope we don't mistake vigorous debate for rebellious behavior.

The Democratic party is a big tent party, I for one welcome new ideas, welcome vigorous debates, come to a consensus, agree on a compromise and shake hands and move on.

yes I agree we have a crisis, it is in the White House.

I would hope our rebuttal will mention that Trump employs those scary undocumented brown people at his properties. Why he even hides their presence from the Secret Service.

He's pulled into his shell and waiting for someone to make a mistake.

I don't see any mention of him in the OP or the responses.
