I hope he does declare the emergency

Because it won’t work. The courts will stop it. And it will be yet another slap in the face to the military.

So let him declare it then pass a no wall CR and get the workers paid and back to work.

Sound familiar?

Please don't hope for things that would be a disaster if fickle voters (or fickle courts) don't act as you believe they will.

Palin. How the fuck did she even get in a position to be considered?

Bush 2 with Cheney frothing... It goes on and on

So depressing

I was afraid, all along, that there were enough stupid, bigoted people in this country to elect him. After all - look how many loved Palin.

And - given how the law on this particular issue plays out, he might not even need those two.

Presidents have broad discretion to declare national emergencies, so courts are very deferential to such declarations. The closer question is whether building a border wall can be classified as military construction - and even there, it would not necessarily take a stacked deck to reach that conclusion.

Then, I wasn't. That was mid 2016 and I had started paying better attention.

I still remember election night when this forum went down. Makes me sick to my stomach to even think about it. I knew.

Nobody should be hoping or wishing anything that is not in America’s best interest. When it happened before with people hoping he’d win the nom because “we’d show them”, I totally questioned the strategy, sanity, etc. of such a statement. Even more so now that we know what it got us.

What do they say, insanity is doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different outcome?

I was not suggesting anything about what she could accomplish going forward (or in the past, for that matter).

I was reminding the OP of the foolishness of hoping for an event that would be disastrous if it occurred because we expect voters (in Clinton's case) or judges (in this case) to act rationally and prevent the consequences of that event from materializing.

They were done when they impeached Clinton.....
They were finished when they started two wars.....
They were never gonna see power again when they lost Congress in 2006.....
America would never elect Republicans again after Obama won in 2008.....
The 2013 shutdown was gonna be their last gasp......
Etc....
Etc.....

America is fickle and more impatient than ever, we probably have the House for two or three sessions then people will get complacent or vote them back in as a protest, rinse, repeat.

That this is a way out for him. He declares emergency and then says he'll sign the bills because he's paying for it another way. The courts squash it, and then he rants about the courts, saying that "something must be done."

Might be the only way our for him.
