It's not "BOTH SIDES" are responsible. It's Trump and the Republicans who are solely to blame
President Trump and the Republicans have every right to attempt to pass a bill funding the building of a wall that stretches the entire length of our Southern border. Democrats have every right to oppose it. That's how Democracy works. The wall would currently be under construction, if the Republicans had the votes. But they didn't accomplish that even when they controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency. I don't care about the filibuster rule (60 votes in the Senate). If the wall was that important, the Republicans could have used their simple majority to wave the filibuster rule and pass the wall funding with 50 votes (plus the VP). But they couldn't get the 50 votes, because when Trump suggested this method, 7 Republican Senators said that they would not change the rule for the wall. In any event, the wall funding is not in any appropriation's bill because the Republicans don't have the votes. Again, that's how Democracy works.
The continuing resolution to keep the government running and fund the departments should never be held hostage, by either party, to achieve a legislative goal that can't be achieved because you don't have the votes or the president's signature to pass an important bill or measure.
The controversial item in the funding bill should be taken from the bill and voted on separately. No branch of government, for any reason, should be allowed to bring our own government to its knees. It's like one parent holding his (or her) own children hostage until the other spouse agrees that tonight we go out to an Italian Restaurant.
Come on, man.
