Anyone remember how Ted Koppel started?

He would start each Nightline by enumerating how many days Iranians
held Americans hostage, adding another day to each night's total.

?w=450&h=324

Someone ought to do the same with how many days Trump and
his shutdown has held America hostage.

Actually Ted Koppel started by donning that gorgeous hairpiece. I mean, it's totally unique. The rest is history.

He said in an interview that, early on, he never went to a barber. Instead, he actually used one of those combs with the razor blade in them.

When the network found out, they insisted that he actually have it done by a professional.

going back to Frank Reynolds, Max Robinson, and Peter Jennings. In fact, Reynolds started the program that Koppel eventually took over (and was renamed to Nightline)!

Sadly we lost her 4 years ago this week but quips like that live on in my mind!!! She was the one who made me a CSPAN junkie (she liked to watch the various public affairs panels that they would broadcast since she was a poly-sci major in college) and I always wondered what she would have thought about the current occupant in the WH but then we used to listen both local Philly and NYC talk radio pre-Faux and even pre-Limpballs/Hannity and were aware of him up in NY. In fact, he had bid on building a casino here in Philly when PA started legalized gambling back in 2006 (which would have been put in the neighborhood adjacent to the one where she grew up in the '30s).

Funny to hear about "pre-Limpballs" - I spent time listening to "Jeff Christie" - AKA "Rush Limbaugh" - here in the Pittsburgh area in the early 70's. Interesting stuff to read about him if you "google" the Jeff Christie name.

and Dom Giordano as the resident loud mouth conservatives (who identified as libertarians). In fact, Homer was one of the big pushers of buying gold back in the mid-70s before the prices shot up. I used to pick up KDKA over your way and even Cincinnati and Chicago stations. Also listened to Jay Diamond (ugh) on WABC and David Brudnoy on WBZ in Boston (my Mom called him "Racist David" ).

Back in the '70s and '80s before Rush in NYC, there was Bob Grant as the protege extraordinaire. In fact I think Hannity came about when Grant was pushed out of WABC and landed on WOR (he moved back and forth between those 2 stations continually).

I have heard of Christie and I also recall hearing Limball's very first show on WABC because he took the slot that belonged to Lynn Samuels, who I had tuned into while home sick that day, and there he was while Lynn whined about moving to another studio.

To think of having listened to these guys over the years and then looking at what is on the air now, it's even worse.

Didn't Keith Olbermann have some kind of countdown going in his "Resistance" series?
