If Trump and Melania had to buy and cook their own food and clean their own toilets and get their clothes clean and scrub the floors do you think the shutdown would go on for long? They would probably starve to death.

Why are the toilets cleaned in Congress?

Because somebody decided it.

"Arbitrary" isn't a reason for something to be derided. In law, pretty much everything is arbitrary. Same for deadlines. Regulations. When the EPA makes a decision based on data, somebody has to decide within the margin of error to make it low, mid, or high. Or to run additional tests. Or decide that the risk isn't worth the regulation--or that the risk we don't know about is still higher, so we push the limit lower.
