"Home of the Brave" my ass!

What kind of country is this? If you go by the political debates that are in the headlines it doesn't look good. Oh, we like to think we're tough, but when it comes right down to it we act like a bunch of scared little babies. And it doesn't take much to make us cower in fear. The president's golf caddy might tweet something mean about me or maybe the president himself might get on his phone and use that ridiculous social media platform to call me a name while he's sitting on the toilet one morning-I better fall into line. It's not a big leap to being convinced that desperate migrants looking for a better life, just like the ancestors of the vast majority of current American citizens, are such an existential threat to our well-being that we need to build a wall to protect us. Such a threat that the president thinks that he can score political points by shutting the government down to try to get it. Oh,and while he's at it, to spend billions to build that wall that would be better spent on the crumbling infrastructure of this country-like say, replacing a rail tunnel under the Hudson River that's going to fail in the near future and bring rail traffic to a halt along the east coast. But that's crazy talk when we have something real to fear like Guatemalan mothers carrying babies.

So it doesn't take a lot to understand why we have leaders who are afraid of a phony tough guy president who never did a hard day's work in his life. (Would you be willing to bet that Trump has never used a shovel that wasn't for a ceremonial ground-breaking or held a hammer in his hand or even played a sport that involved physical confrontation with another human?) This empty suit might say something mean about you. You better watch out! Is it any wonder that the concept of doing the right thing, no matter what the consequences might be, is lost on these people? Oh no, I might get an opponent in my next primary! Not hard to understand that such people are easily manipulated by threats of public embarrassment. Putin probably laughs at how little it takes to send some of these republicans scurrying for cover so he can influence our actions.

Standing up to this guy doesn't take bravery, just some backbone. Pelosi and Schumer have his number-and it's driving him crazy (ier). Trump will huff and puff, turn beet red, make some nasty tweets, call people names, but in the end, he's going to be exposed for the coward he is. All that bluster is hiding something. He's a person without character or substance (unless you consider low character). This confrontation over the wall will expose more than just Trump. His enablers are going to come out of this with a lot of explaining to do. They're not used to anyone standing up to them and they've become accustomed to being able to portray themselves as tough based on nothing other than empty threats and talk. That's not real life. You want to be tough? Risk something. Stand up for what is right, even if it might cost you. We're going to see who's brave an who's not. We'll find out if the words of the National Anthem really describe our national character or are the same as the empty talk that comes out of our president's mouth every day.

that he's willing to screw us all over to get what he wants. He's so tough that he's willing to make 800,000 federal workers suffer to get what he wants. All while he suffers and sacrifices nothing. Now THAT's a brave guy.
