only let him buy land.
it is my understanding that there are 700 mi of fence at the border, and that that represents all the area where we either owned the land or the owner were willing to sell it.
there are still cases in the system trying to acquire land.
so, let him start trying to buy up the land.
wont hurt much. no permanent damage, we can turn it into a park later.
that will keep him out of trouble till 2020 at least.

(22,037 posts)I read elsewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that some landowners along the border are selling very small pieces of their property (3' x 3'?) in order to make any eminent domain claims even more complicated. Smart thinking, if you ask me!

(7,398 posts)for developers to donate parcels of land to government entities in return for land that is more suitable for their development goals or at least some changes in the restrictions on how land they already owned can be used. On the surface it looks like a win/win situation. Sometimes it is. But other times the government ends up paying a fortune over time for maintenance. We aren't talking just maintaining a wall, but mowing, tree work, recovery from natural events, monitoring vandalism and illegal activity, often after hours, which stretches law enforcement staff. The list goes on and on. Those activities cost money and will never cease as long as the property is used by the public.
No wall. Period.
I realize the OP was probably a bit tongue in cheek, just wanted to make the points about the hidden expenses of publ;ic land ownership.
