Who knows how long this stint will be, but Tweety's been appearing to be really losing ground health-wise these last weeks.
Of course I don't wish to see the guy deteriorate, but if he's got to hand over the timeslot, I'd like to see Steve do it.
I like Steve. I find him to be smart, informed, and even-handed. Doesn't seem to put his own ego into the mix: He reads the cards as they fall and asks the important, detailed questions.
Ok... Bring on the opposition.

(3,344 posts)He is one of the worst of the worst. It is all a game to him, with "both siderism" everywhere.
And all that constant "eager puppy" shit

(7,113 posts)I like the way Steve interjects interesting tidbits from his vast storehouse of political factoids.
Ari Melber once characterized him as a "Nerd Heartthrob." Made him blush.
SK needs to cut down on the coffee, though. He often seems over-caffeinated.

Both Siderism is usually meant as not extremely partisan in a way that I agree with.

(13,776 posts)I like Joy as a person too, and as an interviewer, but during her own opinion statements her speaking style of trying to land a persuasive statement with every single sentence is wearying.
Although anything is better than Matthews constant interrupting of his guests. I like him too, as a person, but sheesh.
Id love to see Nicolle (however her name is spelled) in that spot, since in the Pacific timezone I almost never get to see her, and I think shes great.

(2,246 posts)Those who don't like him because he is not a homer should look beyond; at his talent. He knows how to pile the beans so well, NBC has him as National Political Correspondent. He knows his stuff. He's not a charmer and lost his slot to Nicole Wallace. Nonetheless, NBC did not let him go because he is a yeoman capable of filling in multiple spots. What I like is his penchant for reality.
I don't care for the opposition, but they've convinced some with the veracity of their opinions. There has to be some truth to what they say. I'm going to listen to corroborate or refute. All the truth matters. Even if I don't like it.

Tweety should be given a "promotion" to venerated political historian and source. The rigor of the daily hour is too much for him, sad to say. His medical history and physical condition are really making the work difficult as it is structured.
But who would want to be the one to tell him? I don't know when his current contract is up. It's clear that he loves what he does, and he has been in the middle of it all for a very long time.
Kornacki will never get that prime time hour.

(312 posts)2007/CNN called, they're looking for their cable news format back.
Unfortunate thing is, I get the sense that Chris Matthews would be great to talk to when he's not running his show and "in character." He comes across as an historian and someone who I could learn from when he's not on-air. He has insight, and I enjoy listening to him when he's not dominating a conversation (a solid 3 minutes per year).
Problem is, he's been doing his show for long enough that I don't think he understands how to run a show any other way. Looking at the MSNBC lineup from the beginning, Hardball is one of the only ones that hasn't changed in format. Chris asks a question, gives the male guests 20 seconds and the female guests 8 seconds to start talking, then he talks over them and continues making the point he was making in the first place.
At this point, I don't gain anything from watching his show. If anything, I see his and Chuck Todd's show as the two completely corporate, Comcast party-line shows. Oh awesome, a guest panel featuring Hugh Hewitt and Corey Leandowskiy. And gee wilikers, Nicki Haley is going to the Republican nominee in 2020 and thus first woman president! Meanwhile, the Dems are in Disarray because someone dropped an F-bomb at a party! All because serious guys like Hugh Hewitt and Bret Stephens say so.
Sidebar here, specifically about Chris Matthews: his last segment is called "let me finish". Because out of all the people that jump to mind when I think of being unfairly cut-off, Chris Matthews is at the top.
If it were up to me, I'd cancel the show entirely and replace it with something like "Smart People Talking", with co-hosts Maya Wiley and Jill Wine-Banks. Hearing them (and not just them, others too!) is actually quite soothing to hear, as they're a reminder that serious professionals exist, and haven't gone anywhere.
