WTF?

We need to bring a howitzer to this gunfight, not a pea-shooter.

WASHINGTON ― The first thing Democratic lawmakers have to do to obtain copies of President Donald Trump’s personal and business tax returns is to send a letter to the Internal Revenue Service ― but they’re not going to do it this week.

And they might not even do it this month.

Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.), the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee ― who is legally entitled to see any American’s tax returns ― has indicated that he wants to wait and “lay out a case” so he doesn’t look too partisan.

1. He's been listening to CNN too much with the "Nancy is going to have to reign 'em in" meme.

so, I'm ok with a very short delay to make sure they have covered the legal bases in the demand/subpoena.

They will have plenty of time to get into the meat of investigations. All of the bipartisan stuff that the Senate passed that Ryan refused to bring to the floor for a vote is being gathered to move in the House - including 5 appropriations bills for the remaining agencies not funded save for Homeland Security (where a new CR has been crafted).

They also have to do all the committee assignments and get the schedule together for hearings that will eventually lead to what will happen with oversight and other investigations involving those returns. Legislating and governing is not easy and the GOP refused to do it.

I'm all for them doing it right and building the case. A week or two won't make a difference.

You think the Republicans are going to forget how to whine to the media about how unfair everyone is to them? You think Fox is suddenly going to develop journalistic ethics? You think the chucktodds are going to grow a memory for previous Republican ratfuckery and pass on this?

It doesn't matter what case you lay out; Republicans, Fox and the political pundits will all yammer/lose their shit/tut-tut the lack of civility. In case you hadn't noticed, Rep. Neal, Americans are dying thanks to Republican misgovernance. Ask Puerto Ricans how much longer they should wait for help. Check with the kids in cages, tortured and separated from their families, and tell them it'll be just a little while longer while you lay out a case so that you don't look to partisan to incurable partisans.

Jesus fuck.

It's time to let the Democrats in the house do their job, and stoping the trump shutdown has to be the number one goal. I also think we have a great group in the house who can do things the right way, and can do more than one thing at a time. I am confident they know what they are doing.
