House Republicans' new reality

Mike Allen 2 hours ago

A job posting by Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee says it all about the party's new reality beginning today. The committee is seeking an Investigative Counsel — "an attorney with several years of investigative or litigation experience," according to the listing on Tom Manatos Jobs, a popular Capitol Hill jobs board.

Between the lines: "Litigation experience" is at least partly in anticipation of the possibility of impeachment proceedings, a Hill source tells me.

Why it matters: After controlling the entire government for two years, Republicans on the Hill and in the White House are assuming a defensive crouch, with incoming House Democratic chairs vowing aggressive investigations.

The evidence will show that Republicans were fully aware of all the skullduggery going on these last two years, and I really hope the media ask why Republicans did nothing about the naked corruption. I know it won't happen, except in a couple of rare instances.* That means it's up to the citizens to ask why Republicans did nothing. They didn't fix any problems, they didn't make life easier for most citizens (in fact, they went out of their way to make life harder), and they hollowed out government and betrayed its mission. Why was that?

*Someone might ask Paul Ryan or some other retired Republican about it so that said retired Republican can feign innocence and say he didn't know anything, he's as shocked as you are.
