I am watching my mother grieve for my father after being married to him since she was barely 19. It is part of the human experience, but wrenching.
I hope he died peacefully, and that in time his memories bring you more comfort than grief.

Nothing gets more real than losing close family. I lost my son 5 years ago and sometimes it’s as raw as when he first died, but most of the time I remember him as he was when he was alive. I’ve got great, wonderful memories. You will too.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...
the world became a dark place. The angels (many of them from DU) held me aloft and I somehow made it thru. If you ever need someone to talk to, send me a PM.
This will be a difficult time. We have all had loved ones pass on. I hope there's some solace there, somewhere. Relief from pain or suffering. Something. Hugs and thoughts for you and your family at this time.

My own husband died suddenly from a stroke on Oct 26th.. It;s a shock to be sure.. Mar 1 would have been our 49th.. It's still an odd feeling to be all alone after 50+ years with him always backing me up.. to you from someone whose wound is still fresh.. PM me anytime..

30 years is a lifetime and change of this magnitude can be so devastatingly hard. There are caring people on this board and we'd love to visit with you when you want someone to talk to or to vent your sadness or frustration. Take care of yourself and reach out to those you love.
