New Year's Eve celebratory gunfire leaves several injured, including children, in multiple states

As the clock struck midnight and millions cheered the start of 2019, some Americans found themselves ducking for cover or rushing to the hospital when stray bullets from celebratory gunfire suddenly rained down on them.

At least three children were among those who were hit -- two who suffered head injuries and a third who was shot in the stomach.

"It is foolishness," Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said Wednesday. "It is unnecessary in this case. Quite an innocent child was affected and hurt by this foolishness."

Property damage, including shattered vehicle windows, were also reported.

Nobody needs to get shot just going about the business of existence.

It's long past time our society stopped giving free, unfettered citizen access to firearms. Even so-called "free" speech is regulated, and nobody ever had to go the hospital because of a sick burn or misused speech. Firearms need to be regulated, because we have a lot of people running around with them who don't have the first clue about them. Misused firearms send people to the hospital and the morgue.

These people can barely afford to feed their family but prefer to spend their money on bullets.
