Former Richmond-area Congressman Dave Brat has a new job in higher education.

Brat on Wednesday was announced as dean of Liberty University’s School of Business. He assumed the position the same day.

Brat, an ally of President Donald Trump, like Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr., lost his re-election bid in November to Abigail Spanberger, flipping Virginia’s 7th District from Republican to Democrat as Democrats seized the majority in the House of Representatives.

“We are excited to have Dave Brat joining our team at Liberty and especially in our School of Business,” said Liberty Interim Provost Scott Hicks in a prepared statement. “Dave’s experience in the private business sector, in higher education, and most recently as a U.S. Congressman, offer a unique blend of applied experience that brings additional value and depth to our business faculty.”

Robert Hurt, a Republican who once represented the state’s 5th District, now runs Liberty’s Center for Law & Government.
