(82,849 posts)I think much of it has to do with the shared delusional world of the congressional leadership, dominated lately by Republicans. If everyone in leadership is saying the same thing, even if it's clearly wrong, the media hamstring themselves with the notion that they have to report whatever delusion the leaders are peddling.
Now, at last, two years into this nightmare, we'll have governmental leaders who aren't bound to buy into whatever nonsense is bedeviling Trump's mind today. I hope the media will feel free to base their stories in fact and reality now.

(748 posts)Because he is the President of the United States. You may not like it -- none us of here do -- but such is the reality of the situation. There is a "normalization" effect at work simply by virtue of Trump's being the President.
Such is the consequence of the GOP's having nominated, and the people of this country having voted in sufficient numbers to elect, a vile, demented, narcissistic sociopath to the presidency.

(1,584 posts)Somewhere it has to stop. Continued coverage of this maniac robs us positive thoughts and our own humanity. I turned him off but my daughter called to rant about his ranting. Back to my murder series.

(748 posts). . . but why wouldn't the press cover him? He is the President, like it or not. The press will cover whoever is President. It is not the press's responsibility to manage the "energy" of Trump's demented base, one way or the other.
It's the responsibility of the people of this country to elect better leaders, that's all.

Many other nuggets of genius from our dim witted leader. Had to turn it off, hes far too intelligent for my average brain to comprehend. He sounds smart enough to be a Trump University graduate.

It's all about money. News used to be an area that could lose money. Now, it has to be a profit center.

(22,976 posts)While the media should inform one thoroughly, almost all outlets exist to generate and retain viewership, and thus sponsors.
Its sad that the current, very REAL existential threat to this country is treated like any other show a dense plot, shadowy figures, a madman in the midst, the rage, the hate all of it turned into a show to keep you hooked.
This phenomenon is maybe the ONE thing Trump comprehends, as he imbues the presidency with the crassness and artlessness befitting his reality-TV background.
