President Donald Trump used a lightning visit to Iraq ... to declare an end to America's role as the global "policeman."
It's not fair when the burden is all on us," he said. "We don't want to be taken advantage of any more by countries that use us and use our incredible military to protect them. They don't pay for it and they're going to have to."
"We are spread out all over the world. We are in countries most people haven't even heard about. Frankly, it's ridiculous," he added.
The president has made disentangling America from its wars a priority since his 2016 election and he said in Iraq that the US would no longer be treated as "suckers".

(58,662 posts)after all, most of our "international policeman" mission is for protecting American corporate interests overseas. Many of the SEAL/black ops operations involve rescuing corporate hostages and shit.
In some ways, I kind of support the whole "let's get our military home" line. But the truth is, many in the CEO class are not going to like that they'll have to go to the Blackwater types and actually pay for their overseas security going forward.

(664 posts)We won't need to spend $600 billion a year on defense anymore. We will only need to spend far less than half that amount and the difference can go to paying teachers, building schools, funding health care...
