I know the president's supporters think that nothing Donald Trump does can ever satisfy his critics.

But honestly, the president's Christmas visit to soldiers in Iraq was astonishingly bad.

In one very brief visit, the president denigrated the value of America's past presence in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, asserting that other countries have played us as “suckers.”

However, American military men and women are in danger and have been in danger. Thousands have died in Iraq and in Afghanistan. These wars have been highly controversial, but no previous president has ever suggested those fighting under our flag are “suckers.”

But he didn't stop there. He also suggested that, in the future, our troops will be mercenaries.

Read that quote again: “If they want us to do their fighting, they also have to pay a price and sometimes it is a monetary price.”

Just what can that mean other than that our president seems willing to put our military up for sale.
