When power shifts to Nancy Pelosi, she and schumer should offer DT 2 billion for his slat wall in return for his resignation.
We get rid of him. DT gets an out that lets him claim he resigned for the sake of the country's security. Pence gets to become prez and become a hero to the right wingers when he pardons DT and DT's kids for the Federal charges. DT retires to golf and sniping from the sidelines on a shitty radio show -- maybe taking a chunk of Limbaugh's ad revenue. It seems like a win, win, win.
So, what do you think?

(2,107 posts)Yes, we can vote him out in 2 years, but what damage will be done in those years -- especially if he knows Federal indictments are waiting for him when he loses the next election? I say it's better to do a deal that gets him out, even if he joins the right wing pundit dross.

(2,107 posts)Pence may inherit some of DT base, but DT will not cede control of them easily. They will split. Also, more charismatic right wingers will try to compete with Pence -- hoping to set themselves up as the next DT. They will be in disarray at the most opportune time for us. The Democratic party could further solidify its image as the party that finds a way through -- in a way that holds the Union together.

(27,817 posts)He wants "The Wall" built for one reason only: as a lasting monument to his glorious presidency. If he has to resign, "The Wall" is no longer a symbol of his greatness - and if he resigns in exchange for its funding, it becomes a lasting reminder of his ultimate failure.
And despite being pardoned by Pence, Spanky will still be facing state charges that can't be pardoned. So there won't be any "shitty radio show" or "retiring to golf" in his future - he'll be tied up in court for years.
There are only two scenarios whereby Spanky resigns: The Republican PTB convince him that it's either quit or face the humiliation of impeachment, or he cracks under the strain of what's coming at him and chooses to walk away - same as he's done with business ventures when they were headed south.
Your "bargain" scenario doesn't seem to be a bargain for anyone.

(2,107 posts)The way to destroy Republicans is to give them what they want, but not in the way or at the time they want it.
Their glue is grievance. Give them some money for the wall, and they'll go into a self congratulatory tailspin. Then scoop up senate seats, and claw the money for the wall back. It's not like it'll all be spent immediately.

(43,049 posts)Trump is our penance. It started when we allowed Kerry to get swiftboated, and so now we think nothing of even bigger lies.
We, as a nation, started to wake up from this nightmare last month, and we are strong enough to survive another two years. My hope is that we Democrats put up a decent candidate in 2020 without destroying ourselves in the primaries.
Then we will see Trump and his vile following run out of Washington in disgrace and we will be America again.
