My holiday plans have been disrupted by the Trump Shutdown
In the big picture, my inconvenience is no big deal. But it is a slightly counterintuitive effect of the Trump Shutdown so I thought I'd share.
An extended family member of mine is a long-time federal employee/civil servant who has risen to a position of some authority within his agency/department/facility/site/whatever/etc (I'm being intentionally vague, of course, given the vindictiveness of Trumpland I do not wish to overtly identify him). He was going to host a collection of us this Christmas. Unfortunately he is paradoxically affected by the shutdown. Whereas most of the people at his workplace -- a triple digit number -- are going to be locked out, he and a half-dozen others are going to be locked IN. Doesn't matter if they pre-scheduled their vacation days or not, and they can't get any of those locked-out people to substitute for them. That handful MUST work every day during the shutdown, and everyone else must NOT.
So that rather puts a damper on the idea of a get-together at his place. We will still go (albeit a few days later than originally intended), and we certainly enjoy the company of his wife and kids as much as his own, but they'd probably rather have dad there instead of all of us if they had to choose between the two. Thank goodness his kids are beyond the age of wonder, so to speak, in terms of what he is going to be missing when it comes to Christmas morning/stockings/etc. That would be even worse...
For no f-ing reason, except The Dotard is a dickhead.
