Will she bring a Con sensibility with her?

(5,754 posts)Think Bob Dole, Nancy Kassebaum, etc. Schools are the most important thing because the Kansas side has better schools. You can also see the difference when it shows. One side of State Line Road is plowed.

(1,201 posts)By huge majorities we all want Medicare for all or single payer health care ins; We all want free public college; livable min wage; free child care; an end to income inequality; weapons of war not allowed on the streets, comprehensive immigration reform; money out of politics; dealing with climate change rather than ignoring it; pollution regulated and prevented. So much more unites us than divides us and this leftist majority is being ruled over by a right wing conservative minority.
END THE SLAVE STATE PROTECTION OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE, which has overruled the votes of the majority.

(6,797 posts)They'll bring republican morals and ethics (of which there are none or very few). And they only do it to win otherwise they would be a democrat in the first place.

(45,120 posts)you look at them Democratic policies and ideas are the best over any Republican idea. When Republicans decide to be Dems and work on blending those Dem policies with their ideas to make them more palatable to themselves I don't consider that a win. America has proven time and again that they like what the Left offers. A good chunk of Republicans love the ACA and hate Obamacare. Go figure.

(2,393 posts)A moderate first elected in 2012, Clayton has been at odds with party leadership on a number of issues over the past six years. But she said it was Republican leaderships announcement last week that it was considering starting from scratch on the K-12 education funding plan that proved the last straw for her.
I said, I cant be a part of this any more, she said. Now its coming home. Its affecting my district. Its affecting my children. Its affecting my neighbors children. The abandoning of the support of public education is something I couldnt stand for. I wasnt going to lend my name to the party anymore.

Representative Claytons views and voting history prove her to be a true moderate, and
one that works for every single person in her district, Sawyer said. Rep. Clayton will be welcomed into the House Democratic Caucus. We have continuously worked with her on important issues such as education and healthcare, and look forward to working alongside Stephanie as a member of our caucus. She is a public servant with incredibly impressive passion, grit, and drive to do the right thing for Kansans.

(33,397 posts)GOP has tried to starve government since Reagan and Gingrich. They've made no secret that they want to eliminate funding for everything except defense. They've attacked health, education, welfare, EPA, business regulation, research including NASA and CDC, and yet Clayton is just now noticing.
Looks like she only notices when her own interests are threatened. That's not a good attitude for someone seeking a public servant office.

(82,849 posts)I'm a little less wary than others of bringing folks like her into the party. If she has had an awakening of sorts as to the nature of Republican governance, she can be a valuable ally in interpreting Republican shenanigans. Peeling away the reachable Republicans makes the remaining ones all that more extreme. The Democratic caucus doesn't have to put Clayton in a leadership position. Let her establish her bona fides and advance like any other member of the caucus.

(1,104 posts)How do you just switch parties like that are you suddenly pro-choice? are you suddenly anti-death penalty? are you suddenly pro-choice everything Democrats stand for? If not then what the f*** are you doing in our party? If so then who are you in the first place?
I feel like these people are just trying to make sure that they keep their jobs..... Maybe they didn't have no personal values....
Or maybe they're just infiltrating us to pull us right.....
I don't know... I don't trust it...
