Virginia man uses flame thrower to clear driveway of snow

Nathanael Caplinger decided to leave his shovel in the garage, and use his flamethrower to melt the snow instead.

Caplinger told ABC affiliate WSET that he hates shoveling snow. So, after reading an ad in a magazine about a blowtorch, which advertised its usefulness in clearing snow, he decided to try it out.

He bought one after researching the state and local laws and consulting with local officials.

Public safety officials in Amherst where Caplinger lives said that while Caplinger's method worked, it may not be for everybody.

The official encouraged anyone who is thinking about using such a device to contact local officials first.

But I imagine shoveling or snowblowers come with their own risks. I would think he would have to use it to the point the water evaporates or else he would simply be creating a ice rink.

No matter how you do it be safe my friends. I don’t envy you.

x 1000 and then you too will be able to light your tap water on fire. Every storm sewer grate in my city warns of pouring chemicals into the local watershed.

Looks like he's got an asphalt driveway, too. Flamethrower will probably soften it up.
I'm just wondering what happens after he "clears the driveway" and drives off to go to work...

The sun is a far better "flamethrower" than that little toy. The snow will melt all by itself, moran.
