New Jersey becomes first US state to ban wild animal circus acts!
New Jersey has made history, becoming the first state to ban the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses! Previously passing both the Senate and Assembly, Nosey’s Law was today signed into law by Governor Murphy.
Nosey's Law is named after long-suffering circus elephant Nosey, who was confiscated and placed in a sanctuary by local Alabama authorities last year; her former owner faces cruelty charges.
Working with local advocates and bill sponsors Senator Nilsa Cruz-Perez and Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, ADI supported the bill with data and testimony. With New Jersey leading the way, which state will be next to take action? Hawaii is close to banning the import of “dangerous” wild animals acts, while Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania are all considering similar measures.
