I would always think how they must be assholes to the highest fashion, or something was up.
Now I think the Russians just used tragedies here in the USA to launder their mob money.

(8,990 posts)for the NRA. Every. Single. Time. there is a mass shooting the NRA is out there in less than a day chanting their slogan:
Buy guns. Buy guns. BUY. MORE. GUNS.
Of course Fox is more than happy to supply plenty of free air time.
And yes, there is a spike in gun sales.
But money laundering, yah, what a great cover.

(12,592 posts)That's it. Their principle method for doing that is making people afraid -- of the government, of people not like them, of life in general -- and sell them on the idea that the only solution is to have a gun. They even created the lie, "It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun."
Then, every election cycle they pull out their ultimate marketing weapon: "THE DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS!!!"
When Obama was elected president gun shops reported that they not only sold out their gun supply, but also all the ammo on hand.

(11,646 posts)These douchebags literally coordinate their fundraising efforts with such tragedies. As soon as a mass shooting hits the news, they start calling the donors and members and telling them that "Hillary and Nancy Pelosi and (insert your favorite gun control democratic scapegoat here) are going to use this tragedy to come for your guns... would you like to donate an extra $100 this year to protect the 2nd amendment?"

I remember when the main activity of the NRA was gun safety instruction and they believed in carefully registered and controlled use of firearms. then they found out how much money they could make by being lobbyists for manufactuers and now foreign powers. I think the Russians main interest is incrasing their arms sales by electing compromised politiicians. Guns and oil are about all Russia has to sell to get foreign dollars. Promoting conflicts is always good business for arms dealers and manufacturers.

(36,906 posts)To the gun industry, dead children are merely collateral damage/acceptable losses for gun industry profits and political donations.
The NRA used to be for sportsmen, hunters and gun safety.
Now it has become an industry owned shill for the sale of more guns and the enrichment of its leaders.

(36,906 posts)comment from a blog (I think I got it here at DU)
I had a coworker who was a big time gun owner who kept a gun in every room in the house just in case someone broke in (lots of problems with that idea, may be worth a blog article someday, but thats what he did). He even went so far as to start buying more guns for each room after a school shooting, like home invasion and mass shooting are correlated somehow. He had let his NRA membership lapse and refused to renew it because he got tired of nonstop requests for donations. To him all the membership did was give the NRA to badger him for more money with phone calls, and direct mailings. If the
organization is as strapped for cash as it appears, those solicitations may have gone way over the top and people are simply tired of being badgered for money and are choosing to let their membership to lapse.

Tighten the screws on the NRA criminal operation. And let's see some bastards go to JAIL.
