One of my colleagues at work is headed to DC to take a post in State though. I wish him well. He's a good guy. Thinks he can teach the Trumpistas something about foreign policy. I told him he's setting out on a fool's errand. Put he's near retiring and sees a last chance to help turn the Trump shit show into something tolerable.
I'd NEVER do it, even if I was ideologically inclined in that direction.

(3,666 posts)he says we can't have all these state department posts empty for two more years though and that left to his own devices Trump will simply either not fill them or see to it that they are filled with his idiot cronies whose first loyalty is to him and the family ... look at his choice for UN ambassador as an example.
So he says he feels kind of a call of duty, but he does know what he's getting into. His wife ... well, not his wife, exactly ... his significant other (she refuses to marry him because of his support for Trump, even though he wants to marry her, but they do practically live together ... is really against it.
His post is an important one, but has gone unfilled for two years.

Trump will find someone else besides Ayers, and has options of people who would take it, but he hasn't been leaning toward those folks. He usually has a few fires burning on personnel, but hasn't on this one. It was Ayers or nothing.
Interesting thread on twitter.
