This brilliant expose of GHWB and republicans in general is exactly how I feel.
And there are links supporting quite a few of the writer's points. Good links !!
Poetic waxing to the noblesse oblige with which he laid the foundations for the carceral state, allowed a generation of young gay men to die in needless agony and single-mindedly pursued the interests of a ruling class bent on removing all restraints on its own depravity.
Washington is the kind of town where they disapprove of eating dead babies with a salad fork. Thats why D.C. media types have devoted hours of coverage to thank-you notes, service dogs and broccoli ― and deemed any attention paid to Bushs long list of malfeasances narrow-minded, even childish. It might be impossible to count the number of times the flagrant liar, pardoner of cronies and employer of virulent racist tropes has been called honorable in thepastfew days.

(13,340 posts)You can't vote for some GOP asshole because you want tax cuts and deregulation (and how has THAT worked out for us?) but then complain that you don't support Trump personally. The GOP is not holding Trump accountable. They are not acting as a Constitutional check. They are complicit.

(1,917 posts)Yes, it's a superficial reason - but many people are not capable intellectually or
emotionally brave enough to handle the truth. When Trump is gone, wealthy republicans will agree that
he was awful... (BUT) he did get them their tax cuts. That's because at the very bottom of their
ragged souls, they're transactionally driven. What do I mean by this? It's always the republican
sibling that makes a list of what she wants to get from the house, prior to her parent's death.
It's ALWAYS the bottom line. That's who they are - and may not even realize it themselves.
They hate how Trump looks b/c the optics are bad - but they'll take him any day over
Hillary - who would've raised taxes on them. Like children, they see only what's in front of
their nose. Damn the societal consequences.
