Why Michael Cohen Confessed It All
December 3, 2018 at 10:16 pm EST By Taegan Goddard

New York Times: “He did all this without first obtaining a traditional, ironclad deal under which the government would commit to seeking leniency on Mr. Cohen’s behalf when he is sentenced on Dec. 12.”

“Mr. Cohen has concluded that his life has been utterly destroyed by his relationship with Mr. Trump and his own actions, and to begin anew he needed to speed up the legal process by quickly confessing his crimes and serving any sentence he receives, according to his friends and associates, and analysis of documents in the case.”

“He has told friends that he is mystified that he is taking the fall for actions he carried out on behalf of Mr. Trump, who remains unscathed. Still, he is resigned to accepting responsibility.”

So Cohen ought to appreciate and make good use of his prison term. Unindicted Co-Conspirator will be scathed. Justice will prevail.

He compromised by dealing with a gangster who has absolutely no moral conviction. It begins with justification of minor infractions and slowly are surly the trap to self destruction is set. The key is always money. The universal corrupter as greed leads to more serious challenges and compromises of conscience.

I don't get the "mystified" part. He's not taking the fall. He committed crimes. Trump was compensating him handsomely to do what he did. He got caught. He lied and denied. Only after they had him dead to rights and only when Trump wouldn't give him a pardon, is when he became a righteous canary. He plead guilty to committing those crimes and cut a deal to benefit himself.

He has a lot of nerve to ask for time served. He's part of a group of people who have turned this country upside down, stolen an election and caused massive harm. I hope they put him away for years.

I never got over Nixon getting pardoned. Beyond Watergate,
a lot of men died needlessly because he scuttled Vietnam peace so he could win the White House.
He desecrated the White House with his criminal behavior.
He put the country through a terrible ordeal like Trump is doing now.
He should have gone to jail.
His casket shouldn't be dignified at a library. It should be in the bottom of a public outhouse.

One of the victim journalists from that time was later vindicated, too late to prevent his suicide unfortunately.

(This is all I can say here, since it's a forbidden topic apparently).

To be clear, he lied to Congress, as a starter, which is a criminal offence.

I remember something Donnie Deutsch said last week - speculating that trump may not wind up getting away with much. He said this thing wasn’t going to be over when trump’s so-called “pResidency” is over. He said prosecutors are likely to keep crawling all over trump-land finding more evidence of more crime for the next 20 years or more.

a racoon that has been hit with a stun gun. Creepy little excuse for a man, just like his idol tRump. I want to see them all behind bars for the damage they have done to this country, and possible the entire world. tRump should not get a pension, protections and all the perks a REAL president receives. Let Putin pay him he works for him, not the USA.

They have proof. It's not much of a confession since they have all the proof. He can't tell everyone he did nothing if they have his emails and phone records and maybe even tapes.

Isn't that how all criminal organizations are operated?

The main loyalty of any underling is to the boss.

If the organization is in legal jeopardy, the underling is responsible for taking the fall to protect the boss.

He spent DECADES engaging in questionable (at best, illegal in many cases) actions working for Donald Trump. It would have been so much better for the world had he gone to authorities and confessed years ago. He is a lawyer and has to know that it is absolutely not the case that only the top person in an illegal person gets charged.

As Trump is President, it is true that holding him accountable is different. A question that has been raised is whether a President can be indicted for CRIMINAL actions that happened before he became President. One thing that could happen is that Mueller could testify before the House (and/or release a report). The House could impeach Trump - especially if Trump had provable roles in some serious crime (s) that his administartion has been charged/convicted. Then there is the totally public obstruction of justice via his tweets.

Not to mention, even IF the courts rule he can't be indicted, he can be charged after he is out of office -- in less than 2 years and 2 months hopefully.
