General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsRAchel covering the Jeffrey Epstein story. It is really hitting the fan now. Swamp draining begins.
Finally media coverage...All the dirt about molesting/raping large numbers of underage girls and the cover-ups. Wonder how many Trumpsters this will turn.
"The victims believe they were betrayed by the prosecutors." Bringing out Alex Acosta's role in the non-prosecution deal for Epstein that shut down the investigation.
Acosta is the slimiest of TRump's slimy swamp creatures. Looks like the swamp is beginning to get drained. TRial will be televised since it isn't a federal trial.

(11,990 posts)Just posting "out of court settlement" here could imply that he settled against sex charges leveled against him. But actually, he is the one who initiated the suit (then the other lawyers counter-sued, as is common). So rather than it being that he settled against an accusation of being involved in this, the other side settled against his accusation that they should never have accused him at all (and the settlement included their admitting as much).

(6,831 posts)Not only did she get death threats, but the addresses of ALL of her family members were put out there into the street. When her grandparents started receiving graphic, gruesome death threats as well, she told Gloria Allred she wanted to drop everything. Allred went on telly to explain and wow, was she angry. Nobody should be able to threaten people in that manner for pursuing the truth and its righteous outcome. But powerful money always wins out.

It was so great to see him do this, and now, almost 6 months later, that rapist scumbag Epstein is GETTING SOME SERIOUS PRESS.
YES.
I bet that protester is glad to see this, and kudos to him for trying to get the word out -

(6,262 posts)Involving as many higher-ups as possible has been the path to Eptsein's "success."
He was on party trips as far as I know, but don't know the level of his participation. (no link, sorry)
Time to rip off the bandage in any event. I dearly hope he had nothing to do with the nastiest events, but would not be surprised if he dallied (or more) with older "escorts."

The pizza basement child sex trafficking story was to head off the Epstein-Trump story, in case it got traction before the election.

(25,400 posts)And I would not be surprised to see Putin's name come up in any serious investigation of Epstein. There is a common denominator to what amoral, powerful men want. Epstein traded in that product. And Trump named it in the 'Access Hollywood' tape.

(4,079 posts)I know it's tempting these days to boil EVERYTHING down to party affiliation, but the bottom line on this one is...it doesn't matter what party Epstein belongs to. I don't care if he is a life-long, Obama-supporting, climate-change-preaching Democrat, and has donated to every Dem politician in the country. He needs to answer for his crimes, and if they are as bad as has been reported, he needs to go to jail for the rest of his life.
And if Bill Clinton knowingly had sex with an underage girl, he should answer for his crimes as well. Same for every Democrat and republican who conspired with Epstein.
The difference between the r's and d's isn't that "our side" doesn't do those sorts of things. The difference is that "our side" doesn't want them to get away with it just because they are on "our side".
