Officials investigate potential vote-rigging in North Carolina congressional election

Officials investigate potential vote-rigging in North Carolina congressional election

Republicans are suddenly furious that a potential case of election fraud is being investigated.

The problems began even before Election Day, when voters around the district began reporting they had received absentee ballots they neither requested nor needed. Others submitted statements under oath that some individuals — including at least one person with ties to the Harris campaign — came to their doors to collect absentee ballots, even ones that hadn’t been fully filled out.

One voter submitted a sworn affidavit saying an unidentified woman collected an incomplete absentee ballot and said she would finish filling it out. Filling out or turning in someone else’s absentee ballot is a federal crime.

Those reports jive with unexplained discrepancies in the results of absentee ballots. Bladen County saw an unusually high number of absentee ballots submitted for the midterm election, and certain precincts in both Bladen and neighboring Robeson counties had a curious number of absentee ballots that were requested but never submitted.

A local political science professor analyzed election data and found that the two counties accounted for nearly 18 percent of the state’s non-returned absentee ballots, despite being home to less than two percent of the state’s population.

for anything that can assure them that they may have actually won. In other words, no way a Dem should win the NC, no way. That Dems must have cheated. The Dem had to.

Republicans are artful in stealing almost everything they can. No wonder they puzzled when Dem wins. Lying Ryan can't believe Dems crushed GOPs in California, something stinks he thinks. GOPers just do not read people very well especially the ones GOPers are constantly messing over.

a Republican-leaning gerrymandered district that stretches halfway across the state. That wasn't enough of an advantage for Rs...they still felt the need to stuff the ballot box with fraudulent absentee ballots.

Word is they used the same illegal tactics in the primary race as well. Good work on keeping up awareness of this typical Republican criminality. This is a message we need to drive home.

There were articles after the 2016 election of this type of crap. No one ever followed up as I can recall. The only way to totally prevent this is,registrar and and vote at the same time.

... Unofficial election returns showed an extremely narrow–905 vote–victory for Harris. But in the weeks since the 2018 midterm elections, several allegations of impropriety and documented irregularities have caused county canvassing boards to decline certifying those results–leading the state election board to their similar decision.

At the center of the allegations is Harris campaign contractor McCrae Dowless. The GOP candidate’s top consultant has, in turn, denied everything. Dowless is alleged to have organized an illegal effort which collected several hundred–if not several thousand–absentee ballots from McCready-inclined voters.

Under North Carolina law, it’s unlawful for political campaign workers to collect absentee ballots from voters whatsoever. Here, myriad allegations from voters suggest a coordinated effort by the Harris campaign to not only collect those ballots in violation of the law, but to disenfranchise Democratic Party voters in three separate ways after the fact.

After apparently being requested by Harris campaign staff, those unlawfully collected ballots were then allegedly: (1) filled in for Harris if they were collected without a vote in the congressional race; (2) switched to Harris if a voter had previously selected McCready; or (3) were simply discarded altogether–according to multiple affidavits by elderly and largely African-American voters in the counties of Robeson and Bladen ...

"If it cannot reach a conclusion either way, the U.S. House of Representatives could hold its own hearings and choose the winner."

The certification board is scheduled to revert to its earlier form on Mon (in October a state court ruled that the board’s structure violated separation of powers principles)

Followed by...

"Cooper could avoid this outcome by asking the court to stay its decision a bit longer in light of the extraordinary circumstances. But after dealing with hardball Republican tactics for two years, he does not seem ready to back down. The North Carolina Department of Justice has announced that once the court’s stay dissolves, the board will revert back to its original form: a five-member body with three members from the governor’s party and two from the opposition party. That’s what Cooper has wanted all along, and he clearly isn’t eager to postpone it again."
