I'll take the arrows. Trump makes all his predecessors look good.

That's why some of us mourn their passing. I'm not a presidential historian but the only presidents who rival Trump in unmitigated and unvarnished evil are the two Andrews, Andrew Johnson and Andrew Jackson, and even the horrors they inflicted can partially be explained by the fact they were products of their time. Trump has no redeeming qualities, none, nada, zip...

It's no coincidence Trump reveres Andrew Jackson.

James Buchanan: The President who helped to jump-start the Civil War. Not to mention the Bush/Cheney regime's Iraq/Afghanistan war, which has killed perhaps 100,000 people. Nevertheless, you are right, the optics of the Trump presidency are much worse. He does make them look good.

You're entirely right about this. By comparison to the Festering Orange Blob of Id, Dubya spoke with grace, eloquence, and wisdom every time he opened his mouth

By comparison. Of course looking at Presidents Clinton and Obama puts Dubya in proper perspective

I see Trump as gangrenous oozing pustule that may burst and kill us. It grew out of internal corruption which continues to feed and support it. No surprise our system finds it hard to fight back.

We didn't get here overnight. The racist southern strategy, the moral majority, aligning with evangelicals, denying in turn embryology, ozone depletion, cigarettes causing cancer, climate change, or any science that gets in the way of profit. Scuttling the peace talks, Watergate,
Iran contra, the bumbling and the first Iraq war, Gingrich and Delay, Clinton Impeachment, the second Iraq war.

It's like a long walk down a mountainside. When you look at your surroundings you see the top of the ridge where you just were and think that was pretty high up there. We've been on this trail for a very long time, and were higher than that ridge.

Bush was one of the guides on the trail downhill. I feel no joy, no mourning, only deep regret we didn't find a different path.

This nightmare we're living in now has made us long for the days when a president conducted himself with even a modicum of dignity and empathy. It was only a mere 22 months ago, but it feels like it's been an eternity.

George Herbert Walker Bush was far from a perfect man, but I would take him in a heartbeat compared to what we have now.
