Trump threatens GM:"Better damn well open a new plant...you're playing around with the wrong person"

https://thehill.com/policy/finance/418293-trump-blasts-gm-for-plans-to-idle-ohio-factory?__twitter_impression=true

President Trump said Monday that he urged General Motors CEO and chairman Mary Barra to continue producing cars in Ohio after the company announced it planned to idle its sole assembly plant in the state.

Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday that he told Barra that GM “better get back in” Ohio “soon” and assign a new product to the Lordstown, Ohio plant that could soon be shuttered by the company.

Trump also told the Wall Street Journal in a Monday interview that he asked Barra on Sunday to stop making cars in China and that the company “better damn well open a new plant there very quickly.”

“I love Ohio,” Trump said, according to the Journal. “I told them, ‘you’re playing around with the wrong person.’”

GM said it would shut operations at plants in Detroit; Oshawa, Ontario; Warren, Ohio; White Marsh, Maryland; and Warren, Michigan.

so Trump protecting the Rust Belt is blowing up in his face

Let's not forget the history:

June 2018: Trump’s tariffs will lead to a ’smaller GM’, automaker warns
https://business.financialpost.com/transportation/autos/detrimental-to-the-future-gm-joins-automakers-warning-of-effects-of-trump-auto-tariffs
“Increased import tariffs could lead to a smaller GM, a reduced presence at home and abroad for this iconic American company, and risk less — not more — U.S. jobs,” GM said in a submission to the U.S. Department of Commerce that was published Friday.

“The penalties we could incur from tariffs and increased costs will be detrimental to the future industrial strength and readiness of manufacturing operations in the United States, and could lead to negative consequences for our company and U.S. economic security.”

If Trump loses the Rust Belt, he has no path to reelection. He's done.

She’s making a purely business decision based on passenger vehicle demand. She has no choice, as her duty is to stockholders, not the POS squatting in the WH.

GM can not afford to subsidize unprofitable product lines, especially in the face of increasing raw material costs...via tariffs.

GM should stop making cars in China when the Trump family stops making products in China and other low wage countries. More news media and business people need to call Trump out on this issue. How can Trump demand companies stop making their products in a cheaper country like China when he and his daughter make their products in cheap labor countries like China and other low wage countries? When will all the Trump products be brought to America?
