Here is how it is done...
Interviewer: Governor Romney, you've confirmed that you have always paid at least 13% of your income in federal income tax. How does that federal income tax rate rate compare with what you would pay under your own tax plan?
Now, Romney has three choices.
1) Correct the record immediately: "No, now I never said 'income tax,' for Pete's sake.'"
2) The campaign corrects the record after the interview is aired.
3) Let it stand and risk being caught in a big lie on video.
In general, get people on the record! The media suck at this.
(I love Bill Clinton, but it is amazing that nobody said, "What does 'sexual relations' mean?" And it is appalling that nobody ever asked Bush if he would resign if there were no WMD in Iraq.)
