Rep. Brian Higgins was one of 16 Democrats who signed a letter opposing Nancy Pelosis bid for House speaker. The New Yorker had also called her aloof, frenetic, and misguided earlier this year. But Pelosi ignored all that.
Instead, the veteran House Democratic leader went about winning over Higgins this week, listening to the Buffalo lawmakers grievances and enlisting allies to convince him that he would see progress on legislation to expand Medicare.
The strategy worked: On Wednesday, Higgins pulled his name off the anti-Pelosi letter and threw his support behind the 78-year-old leader moving her closer to reclaiming the gavel she first won more than a decade ago.
Pelosis relentless honey-over-vinegar approach to dealing with political headaches which she learned at the foot of her father, former Baltimore mayor Thomas DAlesandro has been critical to sustaining her grip on power since Democrats won the House majority this month.
She has personally courted disgruntled members in meetings and by phone while deploying her sprawling network to bolster her bid among both liberals and moderates, all but overwhelming her critics with her ability to outmaneuver them.

Anyone who's actually paid attention to her over the years knew how she'd come out the winner.
I can't imagine the shitty people she's met along the way.
That is her strength at this point in time.
She knows each one, what they've said & done, & who their allies are.

(60,536 posts)I was watching some talking head on MSNBC one night last week she/he said, Nancy Pelosi was as good a leader as Lyndon Johnson was. She knows her party, the members of her party and how to work the system just the way Johnson did in the Senate.

(1,406 posts)This was a typical day in the life of Speaker Pelosi.
Imagine what she'll do with Trump n Pence pulled from their perch, & the powerful pen in her hand.
She loves this country..
Its gonna happen, ya know it.
Just watched Higgins 'concession' speech on MSNBC. The Comrade & his sidekick don't stand a chance.
