The local radio wingnut station has been running commercials by a Fundie minister for years. My monitoring of the station is at the minimum it has been over 20 years when I used to have it on at work and now only when I'm on errands in the car. But this wingnut a-hole jerk is on the air any time and vomits his junk about "statism" and Libs and Left and any Dem constantly. I called to ask IRS at the DC level to find out about the limits of religious venues for political speech and was told to get a life.
Besides the political meddling of many denominations, many of them are incredibly rich with the scam of being tax exempt. Plus we saw the Shrub scam of doling out social services through Fundie channels as a way to weaken the services.
Anyway, is there any movement, organization, whatever, out there working to delete the tax exempt scam? I'm serious and thanks.

(6,890 posts)I don't like listening to AM radio, but I always catch the first 10 minutes of the 700 club. I have been doing this for many years. The rest of it is an infomercial to get your money.
Anyways, I think trying to take away their tax exempt status would be politically futile. I prefer to give my money to causes like Planned Parenthood and ACLU as they are typically the organizations they like to complain about most.
Like you, I will look forward to the day when the church enjoys far less political power....

(6,890 posts)He has warmed to things like the decriminalization of marijuana and giving amnesty to illegal immigrants (just today). He has even spoken out although somewhat to a lesser extent to the war in Afghanistan and global warming.....
Edit: I hear you are frustrated, but remember the quote from Godfather, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer."
