(15,805 posts)But I can't stand with someone who gutted the Voting Rights Act. I don't trust him.
Call me picky, but there you go.

(14,275 posts)If we are limited to this single topic, clearly Roberts is correct. Everything else, not so much.

(16,786 posts)That the Supreme Court does NOT work for him or is subjected to orders by him. THAT needs to be made crystal clear.

(10,271 posts)ON EDIT:
let's not forget who Roberts IS--in this order he's a
Defender of the Institutional Court
CORPORATIST
Republican
Catholic
There are days when that order will break in our favor (see the ACA and Obgerfell decisions).
There are days when it won't.
If Trump thinks he's gonna attack Rober's Court as an institution, he's gonna be in for a WORLDS WORTH of Hurt.

(4,448 posts)and we discussed at length how terrible he is.
I wouldn't be surprised that in 10 years, someone will be asking if we stand with (evil republican to be named), or Kavanaugh.

(11,949 posts)While we have to rightly condemn the voting rights vote we cant forget the ACA and marriage equality.
He they gave us the fix for the voting rights thing: apply it to all states not just the ones with a history of racial discrimination. It should be our first act when regain total control.
But I totally agree. He is a lost cause when it comes to corporate rights.

(1,017 posts)Many judges are partisan and Presidents do get the kind of judges (liberal or conservative) that they want.
Roberts comment is the proper thing to say and what he must say, but we know its not true. If it was it wouldn't matter who the President is or what judges he nominated.

(99,710 posts)If judges are crypto partisans why did RBG and Stephen Breyer vote against Bill Clinton in Clinton V Jones?

(9,874 posts)No one should be surprised that the courts are thought of as a political tool after Bush v. Gore. After over 200 years of the court hesitating to "enter the political thicket" lest they be considered as a part of party politics, SCOTUS stepped in, stopped the State of Florida from counting its votes and awarded the Presidency to George W Bush with all 5 Republican justices joining in the decision and all 4 Democrats against it.
