Mueller’s team scorches guilty ex-Trump aide for trying to avoid prison — and uses his own tweets against him

Special prosecutor Robert Mueller is fighting to make sure ex-Trump aide George Papadopoulos spends the time in prison that he agreed to, new court filings show. Papadopoulos is supposed to report to prison on Monday, but is now trying to get out of it. Papadopoulos has requested that his incarceration be delayed while an unrelated challenge to Mueller’s authority plays out.

In response, Mueller’s team has filed a brief that tears apart Papadopoulos’ claims, such as that he should avoid prison until after his appeal is heard.

“However, there is no pending appeal in this case,” the filing says, pointing out that Papadopoulos missed his window to appeal and can’t appeal given what he admitted to and the short sentence he’s serving as a result. The filing also calls out Papadopoulos for the publicity tour he has been on since his sentencing.

The filing suggests that Papadopoulos is trying to get out of the deal he agreed to.

“Following the defendant’s sentencing, he made a variety of public statements that appear to be inconsistent with his stated acceptance of responsibility at sentencing. For example, on October 25, 2018, the defendant publicly tweeted that his prosecution constituted ‘the biggest case of entrapment!’ Appearing on a national television show the next day, the defendant stated that he was ‘considering withdrawing his agreement’ because he should not ‘have to serve even
one day in jail for something that now it seems was completely orchestrated and I was framed.'”

The filing also calls out Papadopoulos for his tweets, such as saying “I have been sentenced to prison in our country while having exculpatory evidence hidden from me. If I knew what I knew today, I would have never plead guilty.”

I wasn't "whining," merely trying to make it easier to find the link to the court filing where all the juicy stuff is, and at the same time avoid Raw Story's clickbait.

I deleted RawStory from my favorites a long time ago. Their site sucks but some of us on DU are grateful for your willingness to go there and report back.

Have a happy Thanksgiving, DonViejo.

I hate Raw Story because of their ads but, they often have the links ("leads&quot to really good articles and, when they don't, I post their articles in a way that doesn't necessitate visiting the site. Thanks again!
