He died because he stayed true to his principles, and evil people hated him because of it.

He had to have been born a universe away from the monsters who did this, and who condone this.

He will be remembered with respect and humility. A world should mourn his passing.

Don Bolles is still remembered 42 years after he was murdered- Kashoggi's name will still ring long after I've passed from this Earth.

Although his name did sound familiar.. I lived in Phoenix from 1962 to '67.

Don Bolles murder reverberates 42 years later in a changed world

On the morning of June 2, 1976, as reporter Don Bolles waited for a source in the lobby of a midtown Phoenix hotel, the work of gathering the news proceeded as usual at Bolles' newspaper, The Arizona Republic, and its sibling, the Phoenix Gazette.

It was a different time: Reporters filed stories on typewriters, editors worked copy with pencils. The news wasn't the news until the morning Republic landed on doorsteps or the afternoon Gazette hit the streets. One headline could alter events.

John Harvey Adamson pleaded guilty in 1977 to second-degree murder for building and planting the bomb that killed Bolles. Adamson accused Phoenix contractor Max Dunlap, an associate of Kemper Marley, of ordering the hit as a favor to his friend Marley, and Chandler plumber James Robison of triggering the bomb.

If my Father in law, who served proudly in WW2 who we put under today, cannot get this honor. Yes that was sarcasm/biased, then my next vote vote goes to TRUE PATRIOTS who ,gasp, willingly walked into a situation where he knew he would die.

Where is the next American hero that lives?

TIME Persons of the Year has been Adolf Hitler and Ayatollah Khomeini. It is not always a honor, just the individual or group of individuals who have had the biggest effect on the year's news. Well - and who can sell the most magazines.

Khashoggi seems to have been a good man, but he will mainly be remembered for being murdered. This event might change the world geopolitically, but Khashoggi is just the unwilling victim behind this.

Khashoggi will probably get a honorary mention at the International Press Freedom Awards next year.

also, a heroic figure whose crusade has made a real difference in the U.S. and many other nations, notably Russia, and is still fighting that same battle with his own life clearly on the line. I checked Time, not even a cover so far.

It's not in their criteria, but it might cause Trump & Co to worry about the consequences of not protecting Mr. Browder from Putin, and even more facilitating his "extradition" and/or murder.

Time: The challenge is that on one hand, we’re trying to make a decision about who best represents the news of the year. But the pick also needs to have archival value. You need the sense that it will stand the test of time. So ideally, we want our Person of the Year to be both a snapshot of where the world is and a picture of where it’s going. Someone, or in rare cases, something, that feels like a force of history.

That said, as an indication of where our nation and the world is taking a scary turn, a murdered WaPo journalist who's "not a citizen, am I right?," Mr. Khashoggi should certainly meet their criteria.
