Don't discount Christian fundamentalism when it comes to events in the Middle East

There's a reason why so many far-right Christian fundamentalists are so hawkish when it comes to the Middle East, and are almost giddy at the prospect of an Israeli/US-Iran war. For them, it's all about fulfilling what they believe to be Biblical prophecy. They believe that we are in the "End Times", when the righteous will be "raptured" away, an Anti-Christ will rule, and there will be all-out war in the Middle East.

They are convinced that as part of this prophecy, every nation on Earth will be aligned against Israel, that the combined armies of the world will clash against Israel, culminating in the "Battle of Armageddon". During this battle, they believe that Jesus will return to Earth, wipe out Israel's foes, and then establish a 1000 year reign in Jerusalem.

So that's why these fundie types are so excited anytime there is the prospect of war in the Middle East. And many of them have absolutely no qualms in helping to fulfill what they see as prophecy.

prepare for an invasion as they witnessed in Iraq.

I think they are much more prepared than 'the West' cares to acknowledge.
