(19,118 posts)The laws were changed. What Hillary did was clearly not illegal, what Ivanka did was.
Headline should have been, Ivanka caught commiting crime, should be indicted and arrested.

(19,118 posts)Signed by President Obama in June of 2016, makes it an actual crime to delete emails of government business. Once she started using her private email for government business she would not have been allowed to delete any emails off that server. Using a private email is against the rules, deleting any emails off that server would be a crime. So her entire email history off that server is accessible to the public via FOIA and if she has been found to have deleted a single email she is guilty of a crime. Even spam, or an email sent to her by mistake, or an old friend sending her a cupcake recipe. Click delete, you've committed a crime.

(45,540 posts)which law covers this? If she broke the law, then she should be prosecuted.
This sounds like it's blatantly wrong but not illegal.

(37,648 posts)Congress passed some bill after the Hillary thing, to make it clear that it's against the law or official rules or whatever, to do what she did. Before, it was general policy is all.
I should look up exactly what Congress did...but I don't have time right now. I just recall that they made the email thing official in some way, after the Hillary issue, to make it clear that it's serious & not optional.
Johnny2X2X
(19,118 posts)And the crime would be deleting any emails off the server after you have used that personal email for government business. This would extend to any emails she received or sent, who doesn't delete emails everyday?
The idea is that you can't delete anything off a government email server so the public can FOIA it. Once you use your private email you've not only violated the rules, but you've committed a crime if you've deleted a single email.
The NYT clearly has a rightwing bias.

(2,599 posts)And while they're playing the "what about..." game, what about the old expression used by prosecutors and judges: Ignorance of the law (rules) is no defense for violating them. I've been baffled as to why the mainstream media are so hesitant to just flat out state in plain terms what those flagrant violations, broken laws, etc. are being abused in plain terms and not couched in euphemisms equivocations.
