For this reason: All though the attack on pearl harbor was horrific, so many sailors killed, so many ships sunk, it did not weaken our democracy, It strengthened it. The American people rallied together like never before. Yes, WWII was a major threat like we have never seen before, but our democracy was made stronger by this threat.
The attack by Russia did not drop bombs and kill people. It is not world war, but it did divide the American people and wreck our election process. The election is the very heart of our democracy. It helped put Trump into the presidency, a man that does not believe in democracy.
The damage done, the damage not yet seen could be catastrophic. We don't know how this will end.
Pearl harbor was an in your face dangerous threat. The Russia attack is in many ways a silent dangerous threat, which makes it even more dangerous.

(66,462 posts)Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, only Japanese Admiral Yamamoto knew and understood that Japan would be 'waking a sleeping giant'. Japan attacked us, and we struck back, taking the fight to the Japanese.
But Osama Bin Laden and Vladimir Putin know that nowadays, all an enemy has to do is attack the US, and we will turn on ourselves, and complete the destruction they started.

(32,767 posts)It was actually a strategically brilliant move on Hitler's part. But the point is, Putin has made no deals with anyone. He's just doing this on his own because he's Satan in disguise.

(4,613 posts)Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, etal. all laughing from that great dacha in the sky. A puppet/tool was installed in the Oval Office, complete with a complicit Republican Congress. 24/7 chaos has been wreaked on the Constitution and the Rule of Law plus deepening, hardening, dividing and exacerbating existing domestic party confrontations. I grew up in the real Cold War --- crouched under my wooden desk in school drills to "protect" myself from USSR atom bombs. I cannot get over the stunning irony of what Putin has achieved.
