Comey Responds to News of GOP Readying to Subpoena Him: 'Let's Have a Public Hearing'

Former FBI director James Comey is expected to be subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee. Chairman Bob Goodlatte is ready, per multiple reports, to issue subpoenas against both him and former AG Loretta Lynch.

According to CNN, it’s going to happen Monday “for Comey to appear for a closed-door deposition on November 29 and for Lynch to appear on December 5.”

In a a statement to CNN, Comey’s lawyer said, “We have not heard from them since October 1 when we advised the Committees (Judiciary and Oversight and Reform) that, while we respectfully declined their invitation for a closed door interview, we would welcome the opportunity to testify in a public hearing.”

And Comey himself tweeted that he favors a public hearing:

4. Possible they are trying to set a precedent for ignoring subpoenas

With Dems coming into power, a lot of subpoenas will be issued next year.
The GOP plan has to be to resist those subpoenas.

So it makes sense for them to try to get Dems to ignore a subpoena now, so the rightwing propaganda media can crow about it in Jan as the Republicans ignore subpoenas.

So maybe that’s the plan— GOP looking to see if Comey or Lynch will partially resist the aubpoenas now so the rightwing media can use it later.

But Comey isn't exactly ignoring the subpoena...he's saying he'll be happy to be there, but wants the hearings open. That's a huge difference, but of course, the GOP idiots won't understand it. In fact, I'll bet when they try to ignore Congressional subpoenas, they'll actually cite Comey's refusal as a precedent.
