Mira Ricardel vs Melania Trump question: anyone here familiar with Yugoslav culture?

Last edited Fri Nov 23, 2018, 07:28 PM - Edit history (1)

Since they have similar family ethnic backgrounds (see wikipedia), I'm wondering if there is some subtext here that's missing. Anyone know?

She is the daughter of Croatian immigrants. Both Croatia and Slovenia were part of the former Yugoslavia. However, not really sure if there is a monolithic Yugoslavian culture. I would think it would be more broken down by ethnicity. To your point, I am not familiar with either culture.

. . .although Josip Broz Tito tried his best. . .

Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo etc. were there before a "unified" Yugoslavia, and Tito's death in 1980 marked the beginning of the end of the unification experiment.

Could be. Some nasty backroom republican shit went down, that's for sure. republican "family values" suck cesspool scum, as agreed by everyone in the honorable sectors of the universe. So this darkside republican skullduggery is no great surprise.

contains remnants of the Ottoman Empire. Many ethnicities and tribal associations are still present and were exacerbated during the Balkan war in the 1990s.

Of the three prominent ethnic groups of the former Yugosalavia there are Croatians (predominantly Catholic); Serbians (predominantly Orthodox christian) and the Boznians (predominantly Muslim). The Boznians and Croats got along pretty well but the Serbians always seemed to act superior particularly following WWII.

With regard to other ethnicities in the area, most are of Slavic origin and the languages overlap. Tribalism abounds in much of the world and it cannot be forgotten that those who see themselves as wealthier and, therefore, better is a tribe of its own. I suspect that the tribe melanoma belongs to is the latter. And anyone from her "homeland" who isn't part of that tribe may be fodder for her make her status known. Especially if they have some say over what is done by or with the nonFLOTUS. She's just a female version of the cheato.
